It was a dark and stormy night. Everybody was curled up inside their houses, lying in bed, listening to the rain pounding on the windows and the ceiling. Well, almost everybody.
But not Paige.
Paige was not your average child. She was abandoned. She was alone. She was a runaway.
She had belonged to a foster home-until tonight. The building had caught fire, and everybody had left. Paige, sick of not having anywhere to belong, had used the commotion to escape from the adults and her "friends."
She scoffed, thinking of them as friends. Those kids who had lied to her, cheated her, and made fun of her for being in the same situation she was. Those kids... Those kids were not her friends. They would never be her friends. She smiled to herself. She was finally going to get away from it all, and nobody was going to stop her.
She bolted down the deserted street, out of the small town, and into the forest that was located just outside it. She hid in the trees, holding her breath, waiting impatiently for somebody she knew was coming. Or, he was, at least, supposed to be coming. Wether he was actually going to... You never knew.
